Today I used the beautiful weather to take advantage of our Louisville Metro Parks.  I took the dogs to Otter Creek Park for a run, a swim, and a commune with nature.  I had a blast even though the water was a little dirty.  Scratch that, it was brown and nasty.  Oh well…  When the water so cloudy you can’t see the bottom, it just makes it easier to pretend there are no animals lurking below your toes.

I really love Otter Creek but every time I go I’m reminded of that tragic day a few years ago when Icarus broke his leg.  It’s hard to forget when I’m still paying 9% interest on the damn thing.

As usual I took the dogs about 2.5 miles in going over the paths and running in the creek.  I had on a pair of old tennis shoes to protect my feet from critters and rocks.  I would have taken my camera to give you some nice pictures but I decided that today was just for fun.  That and it’s hard to convince myself to take a $5000 camera near sand, dirt, and water.

On the way back I took off my shoes and traveled only on the dirt path made by hundreds of other feet before me.  Other than a few rocks and such to poke me in my tender tootsies, it was nice.  The path was soft and squishy with a few muddy spots along the way.  I think people forget how nice it can be to just walk along in nature with the mud working between your toes.  The only sounds to be heard are of birds and the workings of the forrest.  Almost like white noise the water rushes in the background to take the edge off of the stillness.

Icarus, Akasha, and I walked for about 3 hours and only saw maybe four other people.  It was fun.

So for shit’s and giggles today I let Icarus and Akasha out in the ditch to chase George. I knew they wouldn’t catch him, so don’t give me any grief. I only had my iPhone on me so the quality isn’t that great. It’s cute though.  Talk about a good laugh.  They both just kept digging to get down that hole.  Every once in a while George would squeak and it would reinvigorate their interest in the two openings.
